Season Conclusion
The Comets concluded their solid season with an 11-7 semi-final loss to Roseburg. Congratulations to the Crater players and coaches on a fine season.
Tourney Update
Crater found itself on the wrong side of a 5-1 loss to North Medford tonight at Harry & David Field. Crater mustered only one run on four hits, while surrendering 13 hits to North. The Comets play an elimination game tomorrow (Saturday) at 1:00 versus Roseburg. North will attempt to eliminate LaGrande, but North is guaranteed a spot in Sunday’s championship.
Come From Behind Victory
The Comets came from behind to knock off a tough LaGrande team with a 6-5 win. Crater trailed 1-5 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning, but immediately loaded the bases. Dylan Pearce then tripled to right-center, making the score 4 to 5, but was himself stranded at third. Gunnar Asher lead off the bottom of the 7th with a double down the left-field line and Neil Bastendorf followed with a bunt. The ball was about to roll foul, but the LaGrande catcher fielded it and attempted to throw out the runner advancing to third, giving Crater the tie when the ball rolled into left field. After another bunt to move Bastendorf to 2nd, Nate Jenkins singled in the winning run. Gunnar Asher, who pitched to one batter in the 7th, earned the win on the mound. The Comets now take on North Medford at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
