Varsity Season Concludes

After climbing back in the championship hunt following a slow start, the 2015 Varsity season concluded with a first round playoff loss to Summit. The boys beat Central High School 1-0 in a play-in game before losing 1-4 at Summit of Bend. The end-of-season dessert banquet will be on Monday, June 8th at 5:30 at Anhorn. All players and their families are invited to attend. The raffle drawing for the butchered pig will be held at that time as well.

Summer Ball Updates

We already have our first change to the D2 schedule. Our game on Monday, June 1st at North Valley has been cancelled. We’ll replace it with four games with Grants Pass: a doubleheader at Grants Pass on Wednesday, June 10th, at 3pm, and a doubleheader at Anhorn on Tuesday, June 16th, at 3 pm. D2 players will practice on Monday, June 1st and Thursday June 5th at 4:15 at Anhorn.

The raffle for the half-hog has been extended to Monday, June 8th. Players have until June 7th to sell tickets. Tickets cost $5 each, and given the weak sales, the odds of winning look pretty good!

Legion will start soon. The first game is June 12th. Players will be contacted individually this week.

Fresno Easter Classic

-zcqUf8K_400x400The boys traveled to Fresno on March 29th to play in the 46th annual Fresno Easter Classic. The best teams in California, including some of the highest ranked teams in the nation, routinely play in this tourney. Last year Crater outperformed more than thirty other squads and appeared in the championship game against eventual-champion and perennial powerhouse, Clovis High. This year an inexperienced Crater team hopes to overcome the odds and compete for the championship once again. Here’s the schedule and the outcomes:

Monday, March 30th, 4:00 vs Reedley — Crater lost 2 to 4

Monday, March 30th, 7:00 vs Fresno — Crater lost 0 to 6

Tuesday, March 31st, 1:00 vs Franklin — Crater lost 5 to 7

Wednesday, April 1st, 1:00 vs Red Bluff — Crater lost 0 to 1

Spring Tryouts & Practice

Tryouts for Crater’s Varsity, JV, and freshmen teams begin at 4:00 on Monday, March 2, at Anhorn Field. Prospective players need to have completed all participation requirements, and be meeting all academic requirements. Players should come prepared for a full day of practice each day of the week. Prospects who do not make a team will be privately notified after practices as the week progresses. Those who do make a team will be expected to attend practice each afternoon and all Saturdays (Varsity and JV) throughout the season. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Campbell at jay.campbell@district6.org.
